Major SW Aqueduct Diverted05.05.2016

Major aqueduct diversion completed for new Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route

Works have been completed to divert a 48" Cast Iron potable water aqueduct (installed in 1924) in Aberdeen to allow construction of a new bridge to carry the A93 over the new AWPR dual carriageway.

The works delivered by SW's Alliance Partner CWA involved new under-pressure connections for a 1.2m Ductile Iron diversion. Due to the strategic nature of the aqueduct a technique called line stopping was also used to ensure that the old pipe section could be removed whilst maintaining flows.

Allen Gordon undertook the detailed design for the diversion as well as supporting CWA in the management of the complex works.
