Alexandra Footbridge

Work complete on restoration of Listed Footbridge

Sitting across the River Tain, Alexandra Footbridge was built in 1902 by the Rose Street Foundry & Engineering company. The bridge is under the ownership of Tain Common Good and is Category B Listed Structure, however the structure was closed to pedestrians in April 2011 following an inspection which found several broken suspension hangers and the deck also in a poor condition. There were additional concerns over the condition of the bridge towers where areas of corrosion were evident.

Works has now been completed on a £300k project to carry out remedial works and restore many of the features to their original condition. Allen Gordon were responsible for the design of the works as well as acting as Project Manager for the construction works.
